State Liberal candidate for Port Stephens, Ken Jordan has described his recent visit to the Myall Coast as “a real eye opener”.

“Gordon Grainger of the Myall River action group was able to give me a really good run down of the history of the area,” Cr Jordan explained.

“He knows it, lives it and breathes it.”

Cr Jordan observed the erosion problems at Jimmys Beach before taking a boat ride on the Myall River to see the silted channel.

“I told the men that took me out – tell me hard and fast what it is happening here,” he said.

“If I’m voted in I want to be able to go to Sydney and say I’ve seen it first hand.”

Cr Jordan said the ‘pot of gold at the end of the rainbow’ was that the coalition had funded the dredging.

“The only complaints the community have is the length of time it has taken. It should be being dredging in April/ May this year,” he said.

Cr Jordan said he did not like ‘rework’ and said he’d like to see permanent solution put in place to prevent further dredging having to take place.

He also said a sustainable long-term solution to Jimmys Beach was important for the area.

Cr Jordan said another concern on his agenda was the state of the Tea Gardens Ferry Wharf which was in need of repair.

He said he would uncover further issues facing the Tea Gardens Hawks Nest, Karuah and surrounding communities during his upcoming door knocking campaign.
