THIS week was an important one for the Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) program, with Kate Washington MP giving a speech in parliament about how it works, and the wonderful outcomes for all involved.

Kate Washington said, “As a parent and member of Parliament, I am inspired and in awe of the achievements of the community PBL program in Raymond Terrace.”

“I hope that other schools can join forces and that other communities can emulate what is happening in Port Stephens.”

This week’s PBL winners were presented by John Picton, Principal of Raymond Terrace Public School.

John has been Principal or Director, across all sectors – Public, Catholic, Independent and International schools – for the past 38 years.

He is the product of Public School Education, attending schools in the inner suburbs of Sydney, and a proud advocate of the system.

John has been involved in the PBL Community project since its inception and has witnessed the positive changes in behaviour throughout the town.

Ellie Ping from Grahamstown Public School, for proudly representing her school in the community at the Raymond Terrace Lions Club Junior interschools public speaking competition.

Eva Mansfield from Karuah Public School, for representing her school at the signing choir.

Eva always displays respect, responsibility and pride in the community.

Zachary Zucca from Raymond Terrace Public School, for volunteering to help Colleen and Stewart from the MarketPlace on the VIP dates and coin numbers when they were not able to do so.

Ethan Rowe from Seaham Public School, who, when walking with a friend to the bus stop, heard cries for help and found an elderly lady who had fallen from a ladder.

Ethan and his friend acted responsibly, by alerting a family member, who was able to ring an ambulance.

Cameron Hicks from Irrawang High School, for dedication to providing operational support during the Salt Ash fires, as a junior member of the Williamtown/Salt Ash Rural Fire Brigade.

Jaiden Smith from Irrawang Public School, for being an outstanding role model whilst at Great Aussie Bush Camp.

Jaiden demonstrated the utmost respect for his peers, teachers, camp supervisors and the environment.

Jack McDonald from Medowie Public School, for handing in a wallet found on the school bus which belonged to a student from another school.

Dominic Rooney from Salt Ash Public School, for leaving a game he was playing with his friends at lunchtime to play with a younger student who didn’t have anyone to play with.

Therresa Plumridge from Hunter River High School, for dedication to providing operational support during the Salt Ash Fires, as a junior member of the Williamtown/Salt Ash Rural Fire Brigade.
