VISITING the Myall Coast next week is state labor candidate for Port Stephens, Kate Washington, where she will be attending the local Hawks Nest / Tea Gardens Progress Association’s monthly meeting.

“Kate has indicated that she wants to attend the meeting to get up-to-speed on current issues that are affecting our community,” said Association President Trevor Jennings.

Mr Jennings openly invited anyone within the community to attend the meeting, “Come along if you would like to express your opinion on something that is the state government’s responsibility.”

Ms Washington told Myall Coast News, “Attending the upcoming meeting [of the HNTG Progress Association] is important to me because it will help me to understand what’s important to the members of the association and the issues affecting the local community.”

“This is about me gaining a better understanding of local issues and where possible, providing support in the future,” said Ms Washington.

The meeting is to be held in the Old Library, adjacent to the Community Hall in Booner Street Hawks Nest on Monday 8 September commencing at 7pm.

Trevor Jennings indicated that the Progress Association’s strategic tourism plan will be discussed.

Other issues on the agenda are Council’s proposal to use recycled sewage for irrigating Myall Oval and the desire to reduce the speed limit in Myall Way near the Lion’s Lookout.

Ms Washington is getting around the Myall Coast communities at the moment with a scheduled visit to the North Arm Cove Residents Association meeting in mid October.

“Given that I’m a mum from Medowie and a partner in a Newcastle law firm, I don’t get to spend much time on the ‘north shore’, so I’m hopeful this will also be an opportunity for people to get to know me better too,” said Kate.
