Colder weather this year has slowed the regeneration process and has threatened to delay the restart date.
Champion Green Keeper Leon Post said, “We need more warm sunny days, but we are not that far behind schedule.”
Some heavy work this week saw the green top dressed and levelled for the second time.
This involved some heavy spade work, wheelbarrows and hand pulled levelling irons.
Club Vice President Dave Austin said, “Success depended on both hard work and settled weather to allow the newly levelled green to settle without surface water running across it, we did the hard work and we were lucky with the weather.”
An early start last Thursday saw Leon and a team of volunteers start work at 5AM top dressing and ended at 12 Midday after levelling.
Leon said, “Some nervous minutes were had when storms threatened late Thursday but we got only gentle showers in Karuah which might just put us back on track to meet our time schedule.”
The Karuah RSL Bowlers are very hopeful of being back playing on the green before Christmas. Keep your eyes on our notice board and Facebook pages for dates. See you at Karuah.
