KARUAH Public School pulled out all the stops for their ‘Fantastic Fun Fete’ last weekend.

Hundreds turned out to help celebrate, and packed the little school to the brim to enjoy a plethora of activities.

Uncle Paul Callaghan and Kate Washington officially opened the event with a Paul offering a welcome to country and a traditional smoking ceremony, and Kate welcoming all to the event.

The all-time fete favourite, the cake stall, was an early sell out, with jam biscuits, cupcakes, slices and other assorted goodies walking out the door.

Children loved feeding and petting Sebastian the lamb, Willis the calf, and tiny three day old chicks.

Over 300 books were sold on the day, and more than 400 plants.

The were plenty of children transformed into unicorns and walking around with funky coloured hair, courtesy of the talented face painter and lots of chocolates were won on the games.

Teachers braved the ‘lob a sponge game’ with delighted students taking turns to take aim and soak them.

The Lions Club did a great job with a busy barbecue on the day, filling tummies.

Over 40 stalls sold a variety of goods on the day, with something for everyone.

Children had a blast on the rides, with Absolute Megatainment donating substantial profits back to Karuah Public School on the day.

The school canteen sold out of slushies in record time, and thank ‘Uncle Graham’ for his slushie expertise and loan of the machine for the day.

Crowds were entertained by the Karuah School dancers, tae kwon do students and Medowie’s Dance n Dazzle students.

Riding for Disabled provided pony rides on the day, with all takings going to the charity.

St Johns Ambulance took care of everyone during the day, and the Karuah Fire Brigade brought along their fire truck to show the kids.

The Showbags went like hotcakes, and will be available again by popular demand at the school barbecue at the Karuah Timber Oyster Festival on the 20 October.

Olivia Hurstfield from the organising committee told News Of The Area, “A gigantic thanks to my wonderful fete committee and staff of Karuah Public School, without them this day would just not be possible.”

“Thanks also to our wonderful Gold Sponsor Albert Johnson Sawmill and our Silver Sponsors Newcastle Permanent, Karuah RSL & Hunter Quarries, and to all the local businesses and families that donated prizes for the raffle, cake mixes, chocolates & plants.”

“Thank you to everyone that came along on the day, from far and wide, those who brought lunch, ice creams, Showbags, plants, cakes and raffle tickets – without your support we cannot provide our wonderful students with the upgrade to the play equipment and COLA painting project,” she said.

In the last six years, the school has grown from 80 students to almost 140, so the funds raised during the fete go a long way in ensuring the Karuah Public School P&C can help with funds towards this much needed upgrade.
