Old Mates Bakery and Cafe opened its doors and the Karuah Pharmacy celebrated its official “Grand Opening”.

Karuah Progress Association stalwart Dave Benson said “since the bypass went in, our town continues to flourish”.

The Karuah Pharmacy held a “Gala” Opening ceremony on the 28th of November.

Owner and Head Pharmacist Wilson Soh cut a ribbon and a cake, while live music was heard up and down the Main Street.

Janelle Henderson, a Karuah local reported that “over 200 friends, and customers of the pharmacy attended and all had good things to say about Wilson and his team and the service they provide to Karuah.

Old Mates Bakery has also recently opened with fresh bread, cakes and light meals with great coffee either inside or at an outside table.

As well as adding colour to the Main Street, it gives another dining option to the those visiting town. Dave Austin, a part time worker at the Bakery said, “Come in, get your fresh bread daily and try our coffee or cakes, you will be pleasantly surprised”.

The local Anglican Op Shop has recommenced business in its newly renovated and extended premises this month.

The newly enlarged and modernised church hall will be blessed and officially opened on 31 December as a last act of 2017.

Church leader Cliff Johnson said, “Anyone wishing to attend the blessing would be made welcome at the morning church service and blessing at the service and morning tea on the morning on New Year’s Eve.”

Members of the local progress association are hoping for a 2018 which will see even more businesses and activity within Karuah as the area continues to evolve as the “Pearl of Port Stephens”.
