IT was a great day out in Karuah last Saturday especially if you were playing or supporting the Karuah Roos Rugby League side.

The Karuah boys won their match and also got to rub shoulders with Port Stephens MP Kate Washington.
Ms Washington came straight from her own game of netball to the footie to see first hand the new works carried out at the Karuah Sports field, courtesy of a NSW Government Grant.
“We’ve got new fencing around the ground and sandstone seating which has stopped the washout on the hill,” Roos Secretary Sonja Evans told News Of The Area.
More than $17,000 was spent on the project and competition for the funding was fierce.
“There was $300,000 on offer and there were applications totalling $1.4 million,” Kate Washington said.
“I just wanted to see Karuah get what they needed, because there is so much that happens here.”
“It’s a real hub of the community and now that it looks so much better it makes it a much more inviting place to come.”
“It also supports all the good work that the volunteers do, it ticked every box.”
The Roos Rugby League Club Secretary Sonja Evans meantime still has a wish list a mile long.
“Now we need an amenities block, new canteen, new beer tent, the list goes on and on,” Sonja said.
