Judith attended Raymond Terrace Public School and Raymond Terrace High School, before becoming a teacher and teaching in schools across Australia and England.

She also ran a small business making children’s clothes in Hobart, ‘That’s mine’, for a number of years.

She is President of Raymond Terrace Lions, Vice President of Raymond Terrace Probus, Mother of three, grandmother of two, and a regular at Terrace Tearaways (patchwork), Maitland Embroiderers, InsideOut (art for all) and Raymond Terrace photography.

As if her plate is not already full enough, Judith has added award winning artist to her list of accomplishments.

Judith took the second overall prize at the exhibition at Timeless Textiles entitled “brooching the subject 2”.

Artists entering the exhibition created wearable brooches and larger brooches as wall art features.

Judith’s wall brooch, entitled ‘Amelia’ gave her the second overall prize.

It is a cyanotype (blue print photography) image of her granddaughter on fabric, embellished with hand embroidery.

Judith told News Of The Area, “I became interested in alternative photography processes while completing my Bachelor of Fine Art, with distinction.”

“As a textiles teacher I am very familiar with embroidery.”

“I like to use traditional processes in a contemporary manner.”

Judith’s second artwork was her wearable piece, based on a family keepsake.

Judith said, “I created this brooch from a copy of an actual postcard from my great grand uncle to his mother for Christmas 1916 in France during WWI.”

“The image was scanned and a stitch file created to machine embroider and form a fabric postcard.”

“This was then embellished with silk ribbon poppies and hand stitching; formed into a pocket posie and finished off with a hat-pin that I had made for my mum,” she said.

Judith is passionate about helping her community, travel, photography, and practising her fibre and fabric art.

She says, “You are never too old to learn, get out there and just do it.”

“Don’t sit at home doing nothing is boring, when you can be out and about chatting with like-minded people.”
