The baton will arrive in Tuncurry on 2 February, and Jenn is one 16 MidCoast residents who will take part in the relay on day 39 of its epic 100-day journey around Australia.

Kicking off at 4.20pm at Tuncurry Beach Bowling Club, baton bearers will work their way through the town, across the water by boat to John Holland Park, and finish up at Forster Ocean Baths around 5.40pm.

Jennefer, who will run the 12th leg of the relay along Wallis Street in Forster, said carrying the baton containing the Queen’s message will be an experience of a lifetime.

“I feel ecstatic that I get the opportunity to do this,” she said.

“I am very honoured to be picked to be one of the representatives for the MidCoast region.”

Jennefer, who lives in Wang Wauk with her family, is an active member of the NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS).

At 22 years of age, she is the youngest person ever in the Mid-North Coast region to qualify as a crew leader.

She has been a training officer in the Nabiac Brigade for the past three years, is involved in RFS community engagement work and is also an active member of the Nabiac RSL, assisting veterans and their families.

Jennefer said being selected to carry the baton was an absolute shock.

“The first I knew about it was when I got an email telling me I had passed to the next stage of the selection process,” she said.

“It didn’t say who nominated me, and I am still not actually sure who did.”

The baton will arrive on the Gold Coast on 4 April where the Prince of Wales will read the Queen’s message during the Opening Ceremony of the XXI Commonwealth Games.
