Jan McWilliams, Mayor of Great Lakes Council: Monthly update Forster, Tuncurry by NOTA - May 5, 2016 CIVIC PRECINCT SITE We are working towards the development of the civic precinct site in Forster. At Council’s April meeting, we resolved to seek detailed proposals from a number of companies on how we might develop the site to provide the best outcomes for the community – including a mix of public uses such as the new Library and flexible public meeting and performance space. We will keep you up to date with progress. TRANSFER STATION The final Waste Transfer Station for the Great Lakes, at Tuncurry, has been given the green light and work will commence immediately. It’s the final transfer station to be constructed in the Great Lakes as part of the Waste Management Strategy. This is great news for the environment, because it reduces the amount of waste going to landfill. And it’s great news for ratepayers, because it also reduces our liability for the State Government tax on waste going to landfill. HOME TOWN SLOW DOWN It’s on again – the annual competition to see whether Great Lakes or Greater Taree City Council has the most responsible drivers. Home Town Slow Down measures the number of drivers who exceed the speed limit on Kularoo Drive in Forster and Muldoon Street in Taree. We are asking all residents to take the road safety pledge on our website – the town with the least speeders and the most pledges wins! Last year, Taree narrowly beat us, so come on Great Lakes, let’s show them this year! WOMEN’S SHELTER I am very pleased, both as Mayor and Patron of the Women’s Shelter, to see this service up and running! It is a reflection of the generosity and hard work of so many people in our community, who see a need and then do something about it.
how many multi millions are being spent in Forster exactly mayor? $10,000,000? $12,000,000? $15,000,000? any chance several thusands lots of land outside Forster could have town water and or sewer? Especially as its primarily our rates paying for Forsters many many upgrades. Reply
