For students heading into high school for the first time, the feeling is a mixture of being scared and excited at the same time. For many, they are heading into a much larger school than they are used to. Then there is the structure of the school day, getting from classroom to classroom when the bell rings instead of staying in the one place all day. Socially there are huge changes as well with many students having to make new friends who have come from other schools. It’s a lot for a young mind to deal with, but is so often the case, the children find a way to not only deal with all of the change, they embrace it. “To the families of our new Year 7 students, please don’t worry,” Lue Fagan, Irrawang High School’s Community Liaison Officer, told News Of The Area. “Your children have settled in well, they’re happy and they have enjoyed their first classes.” “Many have already made friends from other schools, which is great to see, so things are moving ahead very well.” The 2018 intake has been the biggest for Irrawang High School for many years, therefore the new school year is a challenge for more than just the Year 7 students.
