Year six teacher, Mrs Linda Finch said, “They all did a wonderful job with their speeches and spoke of the essential qualities needed to be a leader.”

“They made their parents and teachers very proud.”

Mr Matthew McDonald, the Stage 3 Assistant Principal, said “Leaders are expected to uphold and adhere to all school rules and be the ultimate role model for their peers and younger students.”

“They are expected to support students, teachers and parents with extra responsibilities and represent the school with pride at functions, both school related and externally.”

“Staff have encouraged the leaders to build on their confidence and to take some initiative within their roles to make a difference,” he said.

Mr McDonald said, “The leaders have settled in extremely well, and ran their first assembly on Monday.”

“They showed confidence, and at all times have respected the Aussie 5 school values.”

When the Year six leaders were asked if they were nervous they all replied “No” and when asked how they felt to be the leaders they all agreed they were proud and happy and thought it was amazing.

School Captains, Lucy Shearer and Miles Brewer-Dunn said they were nervous before the assembly, but were fine once it started, while Vice Captain, Nicholas Hilzinger-Geise said he didn’t feel nervous at all and enjoyed working with the other Leaders to run the assembly each week.

While discussing what makes a good leader Vice Captain, Liliearna Buckshiram-Ping replied, “I think a good Leader is a person who is safe and responsible and shows respect to everyone, everywhere, every time.”

Vice Captain, Kathlyn Stevens added, “It is important to do our jobs using Aussie 5 because we have to show other students the right way to behave and show the community that we have the best school.”

Leo went on to say, “When we go to High School our new school will know we can be organised and responsible, and will think of us as leaders.”
