THE long-planned and highly anticipated ‘The Block’ event at Irrawang High School was carried out over the holidays, with generous teachers, students and families giving up some of their holiday time to renovate sections of the school.
The renovation show with a cult-like following, The Block, inspired Irrawang High School students to come up with a wonderful initiative aimed at beautifying their school grounds.
Selected areas at the school were given exciting cosmetic makeovers.
It was an idea of the PBL committee, (Positive Behaviour for Learning) to spruce up these certain areas of the school.
During the term, plans were developed and designs finalised with final proposals presented to the Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) team for sign off and funding, ready for the working bee in the school holidays.
Irrawang High School representative, Lue Fagan, told News Of The Area, “On Tuesday we turned up in old clothes and got stuck into the four main student toilets.”
“It was hard work; priming the areas, anti moulding and scrubbing before the final two coats were done.”
“Covered seating areas and planter boxes were also given some paint to brighten up the playground,” she said.
The areas were divided up into Houses, students planned their days and were assigned volunteers.
Amongst the volunteers were parents, students, school volunteers, principal Paul Baxter, and the two deputy principals David Pearson and Mick O’Brien.
All reports say it was a great turnout from staff and students, and a great community-spirited event with so many people giving up precious time in their holidays.
The volunteer team are looking forward to students returning and being surprised by all the work completed on Wednesday 26 April.
