Georgia has recently returned in May from a tour in Waikiki, Hawaii, competing in the Global Cheer & Dance Games. Georgia’s group of 14 competed against the best cheerleading squads from Japan, China, USA, Korea, NZ and Mexico. They competed in two Dance sections and two Cheer Sections, coming away with a first and second place in Dance, and two third places in Cheer. The hard work and competition didn’t slow down upon their return from Hawaii. Georgia’s squad has since competed in Sydney, being awarded five first places, four first places, three seconds and two thirds in Dance. They were also lucky enough to be awarded some special Bids. They earned a Pinnacle Bid, which is an invitation to compete in Melbourne in November, a Hawaii Bid, enabling them to compete again in Hawaii next February and a Dual in the Desert Bid, allowing them to compete in Palm Springs California next February. Georgia’s parents, Mark and Julie Almond, told News Of The Area, “We are very proud of what Georgia has achieved and we are very appreciative of the support of the staff and her team mates at MCPD.” “It’s not just Cheer and Dance, it’s also the life skills she has learnt and the friendships she has developed that are just as important to us.” By Rachael VAUGHAN
