THE Australian Geography Competition results were recently announced, and our very own Irrawang High School held their own against the nation’s best, achieving enviable results for nearly twenty students who entered.

Irrawang High School students who entered the Australian Geography Competition attained excellent results.

Those who gained a High Distinction were in the top five percent in Australia, students who achieved a Distinction in the top 15 percent and students who gained a Credit in the top 30 percent nationwide.

Lue Fagan from Irrawang High School told News Of The Area, “We are so proud of the results from our Irrawang High School Geography students.”

“They have not only held their own against the high achieving schools, they have landed well amongst and higher than the majority of them.”

“We are making our mark that Irrawang High School is a school not to be taken lightly in terms of achievement and quality education,” she said.

This year, the national competition saw an increase in participation numbers compared to 2016, with more than 70,000 students from over 740 schools, including selective and private, all over Australia taking up the challenge.

The competition is a contest for all secondary Australian geography students, aimed at assessing their geographical knowledge and skills.

It encourages students interest in geography, and rewards student excellence.

Outstanding students at each age level win prizes include books, special certificates and medals.

Ms Fagan said, “This is a fantastic achievement for our students, and also our dedicated and committed geography teachers and the HSIE faculty at Irrawang High School.”

Congratulations to all students and teachers involved with this year’s competition result.

Quality teachers and students who give their all certainly do translate to quality education.
