‘In the Beginning’ – A musical celebration of overtures and preludes from Coffs Harbour City Orchestra Advertising Feature by News Of The Area - Modern Media - March 22, 2022 ‘In the Beginning’ – the first concert this year from the Coffs Harbour City Orchestra. THIS Sunday, 27 March, sees the Coffs Harbour City Orchestra back and playing after a long break owing to pandemic disruptions. Starting at 2pm, the ‘In the Beginning’ concert will be a musical celebration of overtures and preludes in the ambience of the Coffs Harbour Botanic Gardens. Josh Jeremy from Coffs Harbour City Orchestra told News Of The Area, “Overtures mark beginnings so it is fitting to start the new concert year with a grand introduction. “Overtures and preludes signify the beginning of something great so it is natural the orchestra start a new musical year with grandiose music that is widely recognised and loved. “Likewise, such works often have great purpose or intent.” The orchestra will present a wide variety of familiar works, such as the openings to operatic greats such as ‘The Magic Flute’ by Mozart and ‘The Barber of Seville’ by Rossini; and resplendent, ardent orchestral works such as the ‘Egmont Overture’ by Beethoven. To round these out the orchestra will feature works such as Finlandia by Sibelius; musical statements of solidarity and commemoration. With a disrupted few years, the orchestra is ready and eager with a year of fabulous concerts planned. “It is exciting to be off and running for the year,” Orchestra Musical and Artistic Director Tim Egan told NOTA. “We look forward to a big crowd on Sunday and have plenty more music and concerts in the pipeline for the coming year.” Bring a picnic blanket or pull up a chair for this fabulous mid autumn afternoon concert. While this concert forms part of Seniors Week, all people young and old are encouraged to attend. “Enjoy the music and a stroll through the gardens,” said Josh. The event and entry to the gardens will be free, however donations will be greatly appreciated and will be shared with the Coffs Harbour SES. You can find the orchestra on Facebook where they post regular concert updates. Updates will be posted on Facebook and the orchestra website in the event of bad weather.
