Port Stephens Council is making sure that all areas of Port Stephens are included in the special event, and have been visiting venues, markets and community groups to run lantern making stalls with locals to bring to the festival. The latest venue on the list of travelling lantern workshops was Medowie Markets this month. The hands-on workshop was a hit, and children and adults alike had a ball making their own lanterns to bring on 18 November. Penny Amberg, Council’s project coordinator for Illuminate Boomerang Park, told News Of The Area, “Council is delighted to be working with around 15 community groups and our fantastic sponsors, Greater Bank and McDonald Jones Homes, to bring this event to Boomerang Park.” “It’s going to be a family-friendly event with lots of free activities, food trucks, a lantern parade, skating under lights and a glow room, finishing with a fireworks finale!” “Thanks to Greater Bank, we’ll be attending local markets in the next few weeks to give people an opportunity to make a free lantern to bring along on the night of the festival for the parade and display.” “Despite the threat of rain on Saturday at the Medowie Markets, we made nearly 40 lanterns with the community – it was a great day and we can’t wait to see all those lanterns on the night!” Make sure you come along to the Illuminate Boomerang Park Festival.
