For quite some time now, the Club’s radio docking station has been operating by the necessity of invention.
Members have had to use pens along with other paraphernalia, stuck into the dock to ensure their two-way radios were held in place to be charged.
But no more, thanks to a donation from the local Hawks Nest IGA Supermarket.
“Our communication radios are an important piece of equipment,” Stephen ‘Scuba’ Howell, President of the Surf Club said.
“We use them to relay messages and call for assistance on the beach, and to call other emergency services during an incident.
“Reliable communication saves lives.”
Lovey’s Grocers IGA Community Chest program raised $617.79 to support the Tea Gardens Hawks Nest Surf Life Saving Club.
Lyndal Blaber, Store Manager, said “The Lovey’s Grocers team was proud to support such a crucial service to the community.”
“Our Community Chest fund is one of the ways we are able to give back to our community,” Lyndal said.
“We are very proud to support this amazing service that keep our kids fit and healthy, trains
them to be safe in the water and saves lives.”
The Tea Gardens Hawks Nest Surf Life Saving Club patrol the beach between September
