Horse Rescued By Salamander Bay Fire and Rescue Highlight Section by News Of The Area - Modern Media - June 1, 2021 The horse was trapped in the drain. IT was all hands on deck for the team from Salamander Bay Fire and Rescue when a horse got stuck in a drain at Anna Bay over the weekend. The 17 hand, six year old gelding that became trapped was an ex racehorse. The rescue crew was led by Glenn Penn and they were joined by Technical Rescue from New Lambton for the call out. Captain Malcolm Smith of Salamander Bay Fire and Rescue told News Of The Area, “The team used a steel hoop to secure a belly strap behind both the front and back legs and then mauver the horse onto its side and then it was dragged from the drain using a rubber mat.” This is not the first rescue of a horse for local Fire and Rescue Crews teams and it probably won’t be the last. Fortunately teams in Australia have embraced new methods for getting large animals rescued which mean that the crews working to free the animals are safer and so are the animals involved. Once out of the drain the horse was walking and appeared to be in good spirits. It has been a busy week for the team at Fire and Rescue Salamander Bay, hopefully they can have a quieter week, next week.
