Hockey Coffs Coast under 15’s win state title

Hockey Coffs Coast under 15’s boys celebrate their victory at the State Championships.

THE Coffs Harbour region has a team of newly crowned state champions, as the Hockey Coffs Coast’s under 15s boys representative team took out their division at last weekend’s Hockey NSW Under 15 Boys State Championships in Armidale.

Hockey Coffs Coast won their opening match of the State Championships beating Southern Highlands 4-2.

The under 15’s continued their winning form with an 8-1 victory against Tamworth.

Losses to Metro South West and Southern Highlands in the rematch of their opening match saw the team have a 2-2 record heading into finals.

Hockey Coffs Coast progressed to the final with a 2-0 victory in their semi-final against Wagga Wagga Combined.

The championship final saw a rematch between Hockey Coffs Coast and the team that beat them in the pool stage Metro South West.

The Hockey Coffs Coast side gained the ultimate redemption with a 1-0 victory to claim the Under 15’s State Championship C division title.

The team won the Bruce Barnier Shield named after one of the doyens of Hockey Coffs Coast.

Winning the trophy named after Barnier made the victory all the more special, according to Hockey Coffs Coast secretary Debbie Baldwin.

“We found out the shield was named after Bruce Barnier who was a life member of Hockey Coffs Coast and Hockey NSW, so that was special,” she said.

Hockey Coffs Coast’s under 15’s state championship squad: Eamon Browne, Alex Dent, Charles Dent, Levi Fischer, Fyn Harrison, Riley Meenahan, Max Miller, Charlie O’Brien, Lachlan Page, Luke Page, Oliver Rodgers, James Spooner, Felix Sutherland, Bryce Wallace. Coach: Tim Rodgers.
