Well supported by local businesses, MC for the event, Ms Cath Breadner announced that over $9500 worth of prizes were donated to the raffle. Many home-based businesses, such as Melody Hughes’ Jamberry Nails, attended the event to showcase their goods and services, donating their time and resources to make it a success. Ms Kate Lavender told Medowie News Of The Area, “We go as part of the Compassion Project to sponsor mothers and babies.” “We meet their medical, nutritional, and other needs, and we feed street children too.” The Medowie residents will also visit Filipino women who are in jail to provide care packs. The Philippines’ incarceration system is such that families or charities provide essential items to those who are serving time in jail, so this support is a necessity for many women. Ms Lavender also explained, “The money raised aims to assist women in the Philippines living on less than $1 per day to develop the skills and knowledge required to start a business in their local area.” Imugi Fit, one of the main sponsors of the fundraiser, will be continuing their support by holding a special group fitness session this Thursday, 6 April, 9.30am at 3 Settlers Close, Medowie. Mr Tony Gillespie, the 2017 Port Stephens Sportsperson of the Year, will lead attendees through their paces in a friendly workout environment. A group fundraising yoga session will also be held through Imugi fitness earlier the same day at 6.00am, facilitated by Summa Trappel. The $10 fee will be fully donated to the Compassion Project, and people with all levels of fitness are welcome to attend.
