HAVING grown up in Western Sydney, Michelle Freeman worked as a hairdresser for 34 years, owning her own salon for more than eighteen of those.

When Michelle moved to the Mid North Coast two years ago she began volunteering in the community, in addition to her role as a funeral arranger with Simplicity Funerals.

“The company encourages me, as a funeral arranger, to be active in the community,” she said.

“After researching various charities, I chose to support Wauchope Palliative Care Unit ,Linked Community Services and Bears of Hope.

“Additionally, I organise events like the Living Well Dying to Know Day Expo to address community questions related to probate, wills, and local services and support groups.”

As a volunteer with Linked Community Services, Michelle joins bus tours for the elderly.
“It’s rewarding to see the locals interact, stay active, and make new friends,” said Michelle.

“These tours help them feel less isolated and more connected to others.”

Michelle is most proud of building strong bonds within the community.

“Many of these professional relationships have blossomed into meaningful friendships,” she said.

Being a part of organising and donating a recliner chair to the Wauchope Palliative Care Unit has also been a highlight, knowing that local families can have comfort when it is needed the most.

If Michelle had one wish for the Camden Haven community, what would it be?

“I hope to see more community support groups and local businesses come together,” she said.

“To actively engage in our streets with a vibrant local atmosphere.

“And to see local businesses supporting community events,” said Michelle.

You will see Michelle and a team of volunteers running the upcoming Bears of Hope charity walk in October 2024.

“The aim is to unite the community for a great cause,” said Michelle.

Bears of Hope is a charity supporting bereaved families who have lost a pregnancy or child.
