If you’re not familiar with the U3A, it’s an International Movement, aimed at retirees, but there are no exams and it’s run entirely by volunteers. “This year we have our usual classes in Art, Choir, Theatre, Garden Club, Friends of Film, Writers Group, Reading for Pleasure, Fitness, French for beginners, intermediate and advanced, Balance Classes, Photography and Friday Presentations and Discussions,” Lyn Chaikin said. But wait there’s more. “Myall U3A is also introducing Italian classes and an additional Writing Group which will teach participants to write their own ‘Memorable Memoir’,” Lyn said. Throughout the year, the Myall U3A also stages Art and Photography shows and public concerts, with not only its own members but also visiting musicians. “The U3A encourages its members to extend their range of learning and experience and to enjoy learning new skills.” Lyn stressed, “We are never too old to learn and The University of the Third Age helps people to continue to learn and to enjoy acquiring new knowledge in a truly supportive environment.” “For newcomers to the area, the U3A is also a way to make new friends in a beautiful supportive learning environment.” To enrol or find out more information head to the Hawks Nest Community Hall on Friday 18 January between 10am and 11.30am. There’ll be coffee, tea and biscuits on offer along with a wealth of information. Annual enrolment costs just $36.
