Hawks Nest town planning including community workshops FEATURED Tea Gardens, Hawks Nest by NOTA - October 1, 2014 Great Lakes Council has engaged City Plan Services and Place Partners to undertake a review of the Hawks Nest business centre. The purpose of the review is to establish the appropriate size and location of the Hawks Nest Town Centre business area and to determine appropriate planning controls that should be applied to the area. At the same time, the consultants are also considering whether there may be opportunities elsewhere in Hawks Nest for the provision of commercial or mixed use development. The Masterplan will identify principles and planning controls for the Hawks Nest village centre after taking into consideration the unique values and opportunities presented by the town. The project is expected to be completed by early 2015. As part of consultations with the community two Community Workshops are being held. Council’s Manager of Strategic Planning Mr Roger Busby said, “The Community Workshops will enable residents to share how they see Hawks Nest today and to have input into how they would like to see it develop into the future. “It will be an opportunity for everyone to consider the land use options for the Hawks Nest village centre and whether there are opportunities to look at other areas within the village area that could be activated.” Community Workshops are to be held at the Tea Gardens Hawks Nest Surf Club at the following time/dates: Evening Session: 5:30pm–7:30pm, Wednesday, 8 October 2014. Morning Session: 9am–11am, Thursday, 9 October 2014. A community survey is also available for those who may not be able to attend the workshops or for those who would like to provide further information. The survey is now open and available on Council’s website.
