The almost predictable winners were Neil Kibble, Col Amos and David Rimmer. They returned a mammoth +45 to run away with the money. Maybe they should be on a handicap! The team of Ken Devlin K. Ellis and J. Ellis came in second on a respectable +38 from Barry Goode, Bruce Everitt and Bill Thrift. 12 August: Friday Jackpot Pairs saw only 14 players competing in near perfect conditions. There was one game of triples and the winners, with the lowest winning margin of +6 were; Kevin Barby, Vic Garlick and Tom Parkinson. The $440.00 jackpot was not won. 13/14 August: The big news this week has to be the presentation of the : TEA GARDENS COUNTRY CLUB AND MOTEL FIRST NATIONAL REAL ESTATE HAWKS NEST OPEN MEN’S TWO BOWL TRIPLES TOURNAMENT. A full complement of 28 teams,( 84 players), were competing for $5,000.00 prizemoney over the two days of play. They were blessed with great weather. Not surprisingly this tournament attracted a number of the “Big Guns’ in bowls and the competition was always going to be tough and fierce. There were many composite teams with 12 of Tea Gardens finest managing to get a start The tournament consisted of 5 games of 15 ends 2-bowl triples with three games on Saturday and two on Sunday. It was a Soldiers Point team of B. Dunn, N. Downes and Lee Such that won the big money. They were undefeated in their 5 games. Also winning their 5 games was the team of N. Brook, B. Ahoy and Matt Norris who finished second. Another team from Soldiers Point finished third winning 4 games. The best performed Tea Gardens team finished 6th. Barry Drayton, Steve Jones and Steve Pell won three games drew one and lost won in a very credible performance. The word is that the tournament was very well run and organised and many players have already made plans to play in this event next year. Many, many thanks go to the major sponsor First National Real Estate Hawks Nest, organising supremo Warren Gooley and the many staff and volunteers that made the tournament an outstanding success.
