Tracey Baxter, Team Leader for the Coffs Harbour Red Cross Emergency Services team, knows first-hand how rewarding it is to offer a helping hand.

Tracey volunteered in the Northern Rivers Recovery Centres in March and April this year providing support, connection to other services and emotional first aid to people unable to return to their homes.

“I was inspired by the courage of people who had lost so much,” Tracey told News of the Area.

“Our aim as volunteers is to help people feel safe and secure, so that they can begin to recover.

“Being part of the Red Cross team is a humbling and rewarding experience,” said Tracey.

As a Red Cross Emergency Services Volunteer across the Coffs Harbour LGA, from Red Rock to Sawtell and out to the hinterlands of the Orara Valley, you will have an impact on the ground in our community.

Assisting people affected by emergencies, or helping communities recover after a disaster, you will be making a real difference in the lives of people before, during and after events.

“Images of our Northern Rivers neighbours, devastated by this year’s floods, moved us all,” said Tracey.

“As with the bushfires and other past emergencies, the Coffs Coast community showed their concern with overwhelming generosity and support.

“When our communities are in crisis, we often wish we could do more to help.”
