BIRDS and balloons, dogs and cats and sausages on the barbie, it was all happening outside the Tea Gardens Pet Shop recently, as owner Linda Trappitt prepared to lose her locks, all in a good cause.

Linda had signed up for the ‘World’s Greatest Shave’ and was feeling pretty excited ahead the big shave.

“I’m looking forward to doing it again” she said.

Linda took part in the campaign over ten years ago, the ‘World’s Greatest Shave’ raising money to support people living with blood cancer.

This time she had helpers from the Peter Sinclair Gardens Aged Care Facility, where Linda also works.

Fellow work colleague, Charlie Burns was given the honour of handling the clippers.

And it didn’t take long for Linda’s locks to be lopped, although she did get to keep a small pony as a memento.

“I’m feeling really good, it’s very liberating,” Linda said.

The ‘World’s Greatest Shave’ has now been going for 21 years with over 200,000 people having either shaved or coloured their hair during that time to help blood cancer research.

More than 12,000 Australia will develop Leukaemia, Lymphoma or Myeloma this year, that’s 35 people every day.

Blood cancer claims the lives of more Australians than breast cancer or melanoma.

Linda’s efforts last Friday raised over $500 for the Leukaemia Foundation, well worth the shave to add to the more than $11 million raised through the campaign.
