Over 2500 artists and 300-plus live music venues across NSW will take part in the Australian-first music event. The month-long event has been created to kick-start the recovery of the live music, hospitality and tourism industries in a COVID Safe environment. This event is a NSW Government initiative, delivered by its tourism and major events agency Destination NSW in partnership with the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) to stimulate the revival of the live music and entertainment sectors and in turn the visitor economy in the recovery phase of COVID-19. Minister for Jobs, Investment, Tourism and Western Sydney Stuart Ayres said Great Southern Nights will provide music lovers from across the country many reasons to get out in NSW this November. “Shows range from Jimmy Barnes playing The Sydney Coliseum in Western Sydney, Tones And I performing at the Civic Theatre in Newcastle, Ian Moss at Lizotte’s Restaurant, Matt Corby embracing the North Coast vibe at Brunswick Heads and Shannon Noll rocking out in Deniliquin,” Mr Ayres said. “The NSW Government is proud to be getting artists, roadies, venues, hospitality staff and tourism businesses back to work.” Venues will present 1,000 gigs showcasing established, emerging and local Australian artists, across a multitude of venues around NSW. Great Southern Nights will culminate in Australia’s premier music industry event, the ARIA Awards. Performances will take place in music venues, pubs, bars, bowling clubs and wineries across the state. And that’s great news for the band members of Honey and Knives who play at the Jetty Theatre. Band member Toke told News of The Area, even though they haven’t been able to gig due to COVID, they have been super busy and are ready to get back into the swing of things. “We’ve had a very fertile run over the last twelve months. “Two band members have welcomed little cherubs to the world. “There’s been grandchildren. “There’s been interstate relocations. “A university degree nearing completion. “Multiple hairstyles attempted and then discarded. “We’ve been playing individually, but not much as a band. “But we’re rehearsing now and it feels really nice, like bumping into an old friend that you hadn’t realised you missed so much.” See the gig guide and buy tickets to see Honey and Knives play for Great Southern Nights at www.greatsouthernnights.com.au.
