GRAFTON driver Luke Dunn has taken the chequered flag on his home track in the opening race meeting of the Hessions Auto Parts Grafton Speedway’s 2021/22 season.

After starting the V8 Dirt Modified feature race from outside the front row, the Grafton-based 21-year-old paced the field throughout the 15-lap event in impressive fashion, which included recording the fastest lap of the race as Dunn went on to greet the chequered flag as the winner for the first time in his short career.

Pre-race favourite Mitchell Randall finished in second place, falling narrowly short after trying hard to deny Dunn the win.

Grafton driver Andrew Firth finished on the podium in third after qualifying in pole position, while Coffs Harbour driver Chris Corbett finished just off the podium in fourth position.

Earlier in the night, the heat-race action for the V8 Dirt Modifieds saw Randall and Andrew Firth share the wins.

It was a great start to the 2021-22 season for Grafton Speedway, with a solid crowd and a good roll up of competitors for each class on show.

The next race meeting at Grafton Speedway is scheduled for this Saturday night, which is set to be a massive night of action and sees the return of the 900 Horsepower Sprintcars.

The Modifieds Sedans NSW Title will be up for grabs in the feature race on Saturday, 11 December.
