The Graduate Nurses’ Lunch

‘’THOSE with no sense of history have no future,” said Winston Churchill.

It’s that sentiment that has inspired two women from the Tea Gardens/Hawks Nest area to organise a lunch for Graduate Nurses.

Margaret Stephenson Meere and Norma Glen are calling on current and former Graduate Nurses to gather for a lunch of remembrance at Tillermans Restaurant on Friday 25 November.

It’s been 30 years since the end of an era in our hospitals, when training nurses was transferred from inhouse to University.

Margaret Stephenson Meere describes the years between 1986 to 1988 as a period of  “change, turmoil, resentment, hope, diverse expectations and, with the passing of a familiar way, a sense of mourning.”

Margaret told The News Of the Area, “Before it’s too late, it’s time to bring together the graduate nurses who live in our area, to have fun, to break bread together and discuss how we can preserve our memories.”

Host for the nurses lunch is Kerry Hodges of Tillermans Restaurant, herself a graduate nurse.

University trained nurses are also encouraged to join in.

Cost of the lunch is $40 per person which includes a glass of wine.

Preference will be given to the first 50 bookings.
