THE NSW Government has committed funding to help the Forster-Tuncurry Girl Guides complete the construction of a disability toilet at their Girl Guides hall in Forster.

Member for Myall Lakes, Stephen Bromhead, said the additional $5,000 financial assistance would enable the Forster-Tuncurry Girl Guides group to cover unforeseen costs associated with the foundations of the structure.

“I understand the builders have discovered the foundation slab is sitting on a sand base which requires the installation of joists – work that was not budgeted for in the original design,” Mr Bromhead said.

“The group had already secured funding of $15,000 to build the facility and needed the extra funds urgently or risked losing their initial funding.

“I raised the issue as a matter of importance in Parliament and I’m grateful Minister for Regional Development John Barilaro has come to the table with the required funding to support the local Girl Guides,” he said.

Minister for Regional Development, Skills and Small Business John Barilaro said the Government was pleased to help such a well-respected organisation which provided a valuable service to the community.

“The Girl Guides is a not-for-profit organisation which has a long and proud history of providing leadership and personal skills development to Australian girls and young women,” Mr Barilaro said.

 

“Often relatively small sums of money can make a disproportionately big difference to local organisations which rely on volunteers so I’m delighted to approve this grant for the Forster-Tuncurry Girl Guides.”
