The page was created on 25 January by a family friend and as of Monday 1 February a total of $11,509 had been raised with amounts of up to $600 being donated by 173 donors including family, friends and local businesses including Big Banana Fun Park, Anglicare North Coast, Costa Maintenance, and Bananacoast Hot Bake.

The fundraising page had achieved its goal of raising $10,000 by Sunday, after only six days.

Mohammad Nourzaee organised the fundraiser and stated on the GoFundMe page that, “we lost a friend and now I’m trying to raise some money to help out the family with the costs”.

Mohammad Ali’s funeral is believed to have been held in Brisbane on Friday 29 January.

Mohammad’s body was found after he was declared missing by his family after being swept off rocks on Thursday 21 January while walking along the Coffs Harbour southern breakwall.

Police were told by a witness walking in front of the man that he was no longer behind her after a large wave broke over the wall.

A short time later, police were approached by a local family, concerned that their 20-year-old son had not returned home from a walk along the beach.

His car was found in the Gallows Beach car park.

Following coordinated searches conducted by Coffs/Clarence Police District, Marine Area Command, Marine Rescue, NSW Ambulance, Westpac Lifesaver Helicopter and Coffs Harbour Lifeguards, Mohammad’s body was located in the water at 9.30am on Saturday 23 January.

State Emergency Services and Police Divers retrieved his body.

A report on his death will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
