Why not consider doing something wonderful with it.

The Girl Guides are adding another charitable experience to their long list of community giving and involvement.

They are participating in the ‘It’s in the bag’ charity fundraiser from 19 November to 3 December.
‘It’s in the Bag’ is an initiative of Share the Dignity, a nationwide volunteer group.

An article by Mia Freedman published on Mamamia caught the attention of Share the Dignity.

They were shocked to learn that in Australia many homeless women and women in domestic violence shelters had to face unthinkable indignities during menstruation and also in relation to their daily hygiene needs.

Reading it from the comfort of our homes, with the knowledge that many Australian women couldn’t take hygiene for granted during menstruation, we knew we couldn’t allow it to continue.

So, the ‘It’s in the Bag’ initiative was born.
The nationwide collections asks people to donate handbags and items women should not see as a luxury.

These items may include sanitary products, baby wipes, perfume, soap, deodorant, shampoo and conditioner, toothpaste, toothbrush, hair ties, socks and underwear.

The list of potential items is endless.
Medowie Senior Guides, girls aged from 14 to 17, will be our collection point for Medowie.

For a service challenge this term they have decided to support the Share the Dignity charity/organisation and collect bags and items for these women.

The girls will be raising funds by selling chocolates so that they can purchase bags and items.

They are also seeking donations from our community – all donations of bags and items can be dropped off to the Medowie community hall on a Monday night between 6 to 8pm or by contacting Elizabeth Keeley on 0400 157 921.
