Cherry trees dripping with luscious ripe red cherries were the theme of the day for Galleries in the Gardens (GiG) members when they decorated their new gallery outlet.

Ladders and paintbrushes equally to the fore as members painted a cherry tree mural at Andy’s Cherry Pie Café on the highway at Coolongolook.

Designed by GiG member artist Chez Rands the mural was a huge undertaking and yet one day’s solid work by Ian Morphett, Cheryl Cook, Janice Dance, Pina Reynolds, Lee Anderson, Lorna Hopcroft, Jan Johnson-Furness and Chez Rands saw a transformation.

The large and frankly hitherto boring side wall of Andy’s new café venture was transformed into a delightful cherry tree orchard scene.

Andy, originally from Young, the State’s cherry capital, said he was ‘over the moon about the result’ and hoped it would draw more coffee and cherry lovers alike to pop in and enjoy.

There is plenty of parking at Andy’s Cherry Pie Café so stop by when you go along the highway and have a look at the mural, the art and of course taste the fabulous cherry pies and lots more of Andy’s produce.

This is the new highway hot spot and you want to be able to say you have been there.

GiG is a group of like-minded local artists whose work is exhibited and on sale in several Tea Gardens businesses as well as outlets in Hawks Nest and Kotara – and shortly Coolongolook.

GiG’s next big Tea Gardens / Hawks Nest event is their “Winter Warmer” to be held at the Tea Gardens pub on Friday 5 June starting at 5.00pm.
