Email us – media@newsofthearea.com.au The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) reported that over 65s submitted more than 26,400 reports to Scamwatch in 2018 (a five per cent rise), which included losses of over $21.4 million (a 22 per cent increase). Member for Coffs Harbour Gurmesh Singh encourages local seniors to pick up a free copy of the ‘Legal topics for older people’ 2021 diary to help them plan for the year ahead. They are available from his electorate office at Suite 1/9 Park Avenue, Coffs Harbour. “Older people are the backbone of the Coffs Coast community,” Mr Singh said. “This free diary is an amazing resource for seniors in our community. “It provides a one-stop-shop for information about everything from retirement villages, family finances and the pension, to elder abuse and scams.” Acting Minister for Seniors Geoff Lee said the 2021 diary will support seniors in countering the scourge of elder abuse. “Older Australians across our State have a right to feel safe and to be treated with dignity. “That’s why this year’s diary contains important information about how to identify elder abuse, and details about where you or your family can get help,” Dr Lee said. The diary will keep readers up to date with events like the NSW Seniors Festival, NSW Grandparents Day and 2021 school holiday period,.importantly, it will also provide referral details to relevant legal and non-legal services that can assist older people with their concerns and provide them with avenues for support.
