THE ‘Free Clinic Bus’ has been in operation for 26 years and is averaging over 200 passengers a year.

It has provided free transport for people from the Tea Gardens, Hawks Nest, Pindimar, North Arm Cove and Karuah to medical and welfare appointments in Raymond Terrace, Maitland and Newcastle on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

It is funded by local clubs and organisations and is run and operated entirely by volunteers.

Stephanie Gordon, from the Hunter New England Health Transport, presented Certificates of Appreciation to the volunteer drivers at a recent thank you lunch held at the Tea Gardens Country Club.

Stephanie said that she was not aware of any other community transport like it anywhere and it is estimated that the volunteer service saves the Hunter New England Health over $20,000 in transport costs each year.
