Tony has won 115 awards and Jan has won 96 surf lifesaving awards. Although ‘The Logies’ are always mentioned together, they are staunchly independent people who have contributed to surf lifesaving in their individual ways over their years of service to our local community. For Jan, the award is a fitting way to celebrate 40 years of women in surf lifesaving this year. Jan was one of the first females in Australia to gain her Bronze Medallion all those years ago. She is a wonderful role model for so many members of the club and branch. For many years Jan held the position of Club Captain and District Supervisor, ensuring all patrol groups were on the beach keeping the community safe. Tony has also held many club committee positions including Secretary, IRB Captain and, more recently, Club President. Surf Life Saving historian Chris Conrick stated, “Tony is a club stalwart, a virtual one-man carnival who competes in just about anything going.” Over their patrolling years Jan and Tony have been involved in countless rescues and first aid treatments. They have educated and assessed hundreds of club members in surf lifesaving, a job they continue to do for the betterment of the club today. Together and individually Jan and Tony display exemplary commitment to Surf Life Saving demonstrated an enduring work ethic of the highest order. They are exceptional surf life savers and role models who are held in the highest esteem by the lifesaving fraternity. Congratulations Jan and Tony on your 40 year service recognition.
