Great Lakes Council’s Forster Library plays host to an independent group called “Knit and Knatter” which on the surface would appear to be a pleasant little social group.

But scratch the surface and you find that just a few people can make a big difference in our world and address some real and pressing needs.

Today the Group’s Coordinator, Pauline Howes, has announced that the blankets produced by the Knit and Knatter group are en-route to Nepal, where they are much in demand given the devastation caused by the recent earthquake.

The Knit and Knatter group are busy all year round knitting for the Wrap with Love project which sends blankets all over the world, wherever the need is the greatest.

Since Christmas 2014 the Forster group has made 47 blankets, which is 12 wraps or 300 squares per month equating to 1,000 volunteer hours per month. This is an amazing effort that is making a real difference to so many people around the world.

Altogether 1,000 blankets have been sent to a warehouse in Alexandria, where the Australian Army will collect to deliver to Nepal on Friday 1 May.

Knit and Knatter is held in Forster Library on the last Friday of the month from 10am until 12pm and everyone is welcome to attend, with their knitting needles. This is a great social morning encouraging participation and friendship.
