Who do you think are the safest drivers, the Forster Tuncurry Hawks or Taree City Bulls team members?  Greater Taree City and Great Lakes Councils are set to find out.

Forster Tuncurry Hawks players spent some time out from training this week to sign the Home Town Slow Down Road Safety Pledge and are now challenging their Taree City Bulls counterparts to do the same.

“With young men involved in a large proportion of speed related accidents across the state, we believe it is important to promote this campaign throughout our community” said Club official Lance Fletcher.

“We are challenging each other to take the Pledge – to stick to the speed limit and obey the road rules.”

Hawks players are encouraging members of the community to take the road safety pledge on their Council’s website and to stick to the speed limit.

“Road safety is everyone’s business and affects all members of the community.  Everyone could benefit from slowing down, not only on the road but in life in general” said Becky Hunter, Great Lakes Council’s Road Safety Officer.

“This is the first time both towns have been rivals in a speed campaign of this nature and our communities are supporting this friendly rivalry by making the road safety pledge online” said Chris Dimarco, Greater Taree City Council’s Road Safety Officer.

“More importantly, motorists are reducing their speed at identified areas across our local government areas” added Chris Dimarco.

So far Greater Taree has just pipped the Great Lakes with 114 pledges to 102, but Taree also has far fewer speeding motorists than the Great Lakes.

Residents are reminded to pick up their free road safety key rings from Council’s office at Breese Parade Forster or Forster Library and at Greater Taree City Council offices or libraries in Taree, Wingham, Harrington, Hallidays Point and Old Bar.
