FISHERMANS Bay has been the recent site for multiple baptisms.

Most people associate baptisms with the sprinkling of water over a baby’s head, but there is so much more to this biblical tradition.

Reverend Kesh Govan from All Saints Anglican Church conducts Baptisms regularly and has chosen Fishermans Bay as the venue for this holy event.

According to the biblical interpretation, baptism in the early centuries was by immersion.

“Baptisms are such a great community event,” Rev Kesh Govan told Bay News Of The Area.

Recent baptisms at Fishermans Bay included Jack Torr, Jamie Torr and Pat Allsopp.

Jack Torr is 17 and is one of the Pastors of All Saints Anglican Church in Anna Bay which opened last October as a mission church from All Saints Anglican Nelson Bay.

Jamie Torr, Jack’s father, joined All Saints at Nelson Bay two years ago after he came along to a ‘Christmas in July’ event.

“I enjoyed it so much, I stayed,” Mr Torr said.

Mr Torr is also actively involved in All Saints Anglican Anna Bay, in fact father and son preach regularly there.

Pat Allsopp joined All Saints Anglican Church at Nelson Bay last year and wanted to make her faith public through her baptism.

Pat in her younger days was a bass player and singer in a 60s all-girl band called the Pebbles Show Band.

“We love holding community events and bringing people together,” Rev Kesh said.

Seeing the success of previous events including “Men & Motors”, “Blokes & Bikes” and “Men & Meat” has encouraged the Reverend to continually think outside of the box.

June 17 will see All Saints Anna Bay hold another event titled, “Guys & Guitars”.

“The idea is to get guys together to share their guitars with each other and show each other their skills ,” Kesh said.

With more than 30 guitars on display, the afternoon will see men jamming together as well as enjoying each other’s company over lunch.

The afternoon begins at 1pm and concludes at 4pm.
