One of the firm favourite times for members of Fingal Bay Probus Club are the wine appreciation gatherings.

These are held at a member’s home, and are informal, instructive and fun.

Julia Redlich of Fingal Bay Probus Club told News Of The Area, “At a recent meeting everyone sampled three different wines during the afternoon, not just a sip, about half a glass of each, with the option of red or white.”

They then gave their verdict to organiser Norman Martin, rating each wine from the lowest 1 to the well-liked 5.

There was no hiding the labels on each bottle, so no need to guess the style or vineyard of origin.

“Of course wine is not the only enjoyment , there were delicious nibbles are provided throughout (not just to help clear the palate) and the home-going finale is the arrival of tea and coffee and homemade cake, this time these were provided by hostess Margaret Marlin,” she said.
