Photo: Green Shoots Marketing WHEN ‘Find The Beat’ cruised to the finish line at Coffs Harbour on Saturday to break his maiden, it was another in a long list of winners along the bloodline for trainer Brett Bellamy. “We bred him,” Bellamy said after the Coffs Harbour Hardwoods / AJ Civil Projects Maiden Plate over 800 metres. “I raced his mother, raced his grandmother, raced his aunties, raced his uncles. “It’s just one of the families that we’ve had for a lot of years. “It’s a great satisfaction to actually breed and train one of your own progeny.” Out of Find Me A Dragon, the five year-old jumped well from the gates to sit second behind Alsamenu after the short run to the home turn. Jockey Raymond Spokes took the Drumbeats gelding forward and levelled up with the leader with a furlong to go. Once ‘Find The Beat’ truly balanced up, he pulled away impressively to win by two and a quarter lengths. Bellamy, who applied bubble checkers for the first time prior to the race, said the win shouldn’t have been a surprise. “He’s always shown plenty of ability. He hasn’t put it together on race day but we thought bringing him here and giving him an easy kill on his home track, hopefully it will give him a bit of confidence to go on and fulfil the ability that we’ve always thought he has,” he said. “I know he’s only just won a 800 metre maiden here but hopefully he can live up to the expectations that we have of him.” For Spokes it brought up a second win on the day and continued his great form in the saddle. Bellamy said the next step for ‘Find The Beat’ is to find a suitable race to help him step through the grades. “It’s the old story. Put yourself in the best company and the horse in the worst,” he said. “So we’ll basically just pick them as they come.” By Brad GREENSHIELDS
