Finals footy arrives on Saturday with this year’s AFL North Coast finals series getting underway at the Ce.x Coffs International Stadium. Women’s minor premiers the Coffs Harbour Breakers take on the second-placed Northern Beaches Blues with a spot in the grand final up for grabs. The Blues were the only team to beat the Breakers this season as they meet again in a replay of last year’s grand final. Both reserves semi-finals and the under 17s semi-final will also be decided on Saturday. The final round of the season saw the Sawtell/Toormina Saints finish second on the ladder after a 7-point win against the Grafton Tigers in Round 14. Minor premiers Coffs Harbour Breakers head into the finals on the back of a 218-point demolition of the Casino Lions. The Breakers and Saints face off in their semi-final next weekend, with the winner through to this year’s grand final. Next weekend also sees the Lismore Swans play the Port Macquarie Magpies in their elimination semi-final. The Swans finished third in their first season in the AFL North Coast competition, while the Magpies took until the last round of the season to clinch fourth spot. The Magpies beat the Northern Beaches Blues by 26 points in the final round of the season to book a finals spot and an elimination showdown with the Lismore Swans, with the winner progressing to the preliminary final. The Swans finished their home and away season in style with a 105-point win against the Nambucca Valley Lions.
