ENTHUSIASTIC Fiddle Muff makers Kerry Fraser, Pamela Martin (AKA Shiner), Rosaline Cox, Patricia Thomson and Katrina Feller are some of the volunteers who met up for coffee at Birubi Beach recently.

These ladies are on a roll.

“Once I started to receive fabulous feedback for the fiddle muffs, my mission then became to make one for everyone who needs one,” Mrs Fraser of Nelson Bay said.

Fiddle muffs have been designed to assist those that need to keep their hands busy and as a distraction tool.

Excellent for those suffering dementia, in hospital or any kind of setting  where distraction is beneficial.

Their uses are limitless.

Each and every one is unique and can be created with a particular recipient in mind.

Buttons, zippers, pocket, beads and lace are some of the accessories attached to the muff.

Mrs Thomson, 64 years, has been knitting for three weeks only.

“I am so proud of myself, Rose has helped me learn some basics and I used Dr Google to learn how to cast off, and I did it,” Mrs Thomson said.

“If I can learn at 64, anyone can.”

Mrs Cox donates her work to the John Hunter Hospital, Dementia and Delirium program.

Mrs Cox said, “I have been advised that this will be a long term project and muffs will be required on an ongoing basis.”

The volunteers do not charge for the muffs and have been approached on numerous occasions by people wanting to donate.

With this in mind and to assist with sustainability, they will be setting up a Go Fund Me account for anyone wishing to donate.

The volunteers are happy to accept machine washable wool, 8ply and up.
