HAVING enough staff to even open their café or restaurant, let alone having a great team of staff, is a challenge the NSW government is helping to address with fee-free courses to encourage people to hop onto upskilling and getting into the hospitality workforce.

A range of fee-free short courses are now available for locals looking to secure jobs or further their careers in hospitality, as part of the Kickstart Your Career in Hospitality program.

Alishia Beverley, Training Manager – Mid North Coast at ETC, the community orientated, not-for-profit provider of employment, and training services, told News Of The Area, “ETC is pleased to share that we have a variety of fee-free hospitality skill sets training to support the local community to secure jobs or further their career under the Kick Start Your Career in Hospitality initiative.

“Some really great entry-level skill sets around barista, bar and gaming, food safety, customer service through to mentoring and supervision, are available.

“There is something for everyone across all facets of hospitality that will build confidence and competence within the industry,” she said.

“ETC is proud to be able to support the community in this way to provide quality training to support the industry to get back on its feet.

“The Kickstart Your Career in Hospitality program provides practical skills to help people get jobs in businesses that need them,” said Acting Premier and Regional NSW Minister Paul Toole, who was in Coffs Harbour for the announcement.

“Pubs, clubs and restaurants are the heartbeat of regional communities like Coffs Harbour, so whether it’s learning how to pour a beer at a pub, make a coffee at a local cafe, or lend a hand at the local club, this is a win-win for business and for staff,” Mr Toole said.

Member for Coffs Harbour Gurmesh Singh added, “Our town, like many others, is still getting back on its feet since the initial challenges of COVID-19 and this initiative will bring new life into the town and encourage many locals to do a quick course, that will guarantee them a job and maybe even a long-term career”.
