Emergency first aid equipment donated to Tex O’Grady’s Sail Mystic for Veterans Coffs Coast Highlight Section by News Of The Area - Modern Media - October 1, 2021October 1, 2021 TacMed’s Mike Brewer and Mr Tex O’Grady with the donated equipment. A HAZARDOUS Surf Warning and windy weather didn’t stop a happy sailor from receiving vital donations last week at the Coffs Harbour International Marina. Emergency first aid equipment was donated to local identity Tex O’Grady, allowing his boat Sail Mystic for Veterans to pull up anchor and continue to help veterans. TacMed Australia is an award winning, emergency medical company which develops equipment, training and consulting solutions for high risk organisations and environments. Sixty percent of TacMed Australia staff are veterans. The donation was attended by representatives from Coffs Coast Legacy, the RSL Coffs Harbour Sub Branch, TacMed Australia and representatives from the Coffs Harbour International Marina. “The (emergency first aid) kit has been specifically designed with an IP rating which is Ingress Protection so basically it’s waterproof and dustproof to sixty seven which is as high as you can get so Tex can take it on the boat knowing it’s going to last a long time in all of the elements,” said TacMed’s Mike Brewer. Mr O’Grady has raised over six million dollars for veterans charities over twelve years. The fundraising was largely done by Mr O’Grady with his loveable dog Bundy by his side as they sailed over one million kilometres together. Unfortunately Bundy passed away recently but Mr O’Grady is determined to continue his work giving veterans great days out on the water. The recent donation ensures this can continue. Tex relies heavily on grants and donations, as his services for veterans are offered free of charge. Running a boat like Sail Mystic for Veterans is not cheap with ongoing fuel and maintenance costs. While Tex may be well known for his countless hours of charity work, few may realise the decades he’s devoted to serve our country, serving in the Royal Australian Navy for twenty years in submarine service during the Cold War.
