THE Boambee Eagles overcame the Urunga Raiders 1-0 in a top of the table clash in the women’s first division last Saturday at Urunga.

The three points elevates Boambee into joint top position with Urunga who they lost to in the 2020 women’s grand final.

The Boambee Eagles and the Urunga Raiders have been the gold standard in women’s football on the north coast and the margins between the powerhouse teams are getting tighter as Eagles coach Neil Witherdin told News Of The Area.

“This game was played at a very fast pace with both teams showing a good level of fitness for this stage of the season.

“Boambee were awarded a penalty around the 10 minute mark but failed to convert.

“The Eagles’ Bec Oberleuter scored a well deserved goal in what was a player of the match performance.

“The Eagles continued a more disciplined performance than their previous meeting with Urunga, with all players working hard for each other,” said Neil.

After four matches Urunga and Boambee are the joint leaders of the women’s first division on nine points each with Urunga ahead on goal difference.

The Eagles’ next match is against Woolgoolga Wildcats on Saturday 15 May at Ayrshire Park whilst Urunga travels to Maclean to face the Bobcats.
