Residents around the Twelve Mile Creek and close-by areas, just south of Karauh, have come close to disaster after the fire has burnt dangerously near their homes. 

Denise Timony from Twelve Mile Creek told News Of The Area, “The house is still standing but everything else around has been burnt.”

“Our shed, the caravan where our son lived, and all around has all gone.”

The fire came within 20 meters of the Timony’s house.

“We didn’t know what to do, we evacuated ourselves. We just went down to the highway.”

 

These homes have no power, telephone or mobile phone service.

Power poles have been incinerated in the blaze leaving power lines sprawled across the ground.

Emergency Services are no doubt ‘under the pump’ with this fire. And they are no doubt doing the best they can to get the fire under control.

Residents are asked to have a safe plan for exit.

The Pacific Highway has now been reopened between Italia Road, Twelve Mile Creek and Bulahdelah.

Motorists are now able to pass through the area and do not need to divert.

Traffic in the area is heavy but is expected to ease now that the road has reopened.

The Bucketts Way remains closed at Twelve Mile Creek between Limeburners Creek Road and the Pacific Highway.

There is no forecast for when this road will reopen.
