An important community meeting is being called next week to inform locals of the overall scope of the Myall River Dredging project and sand delivery system for Jimmy’s Beach.

It comes after the projects received a combined $1.5 million funding boost last week from state and federal governments.

The objective of the meeting is to provide the community with the envisaged timing of each component and the rationale behind each component.

Great Lakes Council’s manager of natural systems, Gerard Tuckerman said the meeting would highlight the benefits of the project and acknowledge the funding partnership that has made it possible.

“It is not just a dredging project but establishing an efficient cost effective sand delivery system for Jimmys Beach. This is a significant outcome which is worth celebrating,” he said.

Great Lakes deputy mayor Len Roberts said he strongly encouraged people to attend to really find out what is happening and what it will mean to the future of our towns and river.

“This has been a hard fought battle by MRAG, council and Craig Baumann and an opportunity to hear firsthand what has been achieved by their tenacity.  It will definitely not be a boring talkfest but a very informative occasion,” he said.

The meeting will be taking place Wednesday, 25 March from 5:00pm to 6:30pm at the Baptist Church  in Myall St Tea Gardens.
