The Christmas spirit of giving is alive and well. Locals were asked to donate a handbag they no longer needed and fill it with essential items and maybe a treat or two to make a woman in need feel special at Christmas.Late last month News Of The Area appealed to locals to join the ‘It’s In the Bag’ campaign being run by the ‘Share the Dignity’ Charity. “Initially, it was to supply sanitary items, because when women are forced out of their homes because of domestic situations, quite often they leave with absolutely nothing,” Joanne Kohlhagen told News Of The Area. Late last week, Joanne Kohlhagen from ‘Share the Dignity’ came to Tea Gardens to pick up more than 90 handbags full of all sorts of items certain to make someone’s Christmas a little happier. “I got on board, because I recently retired and I wanted to do something to help,” Joanne said. More than 90 donated bags were chock full of goodies from pieces of jewellery to scarves, toiletry articles and cosmetics. The bags are now off to charities that take care of women in need over the Christmas period, not just locally, but in remote areas as well.
